skyHow ♥ Pride
This month celebrates the Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and their contributions to society. At skyHow, we believe in inclusivity and diversity, and we stand with the LGBTQ+ community in their fight for equality and acceptance.
Forget the proprietary wikiHow!
Welcome to the open-source how-to manual,
skyHow!
A free, open-source alternative to wikiHow, built by the community for the community.

Why use skyHow instead of wikiHow?
Completely free to use
skyHow is completely free to use. Although wikiHow restricts access to some features to a paid subscription, skyHow doesn't.
Free license
Content on skyHow is released under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0, allowing anyone to use, modify, and distribute it without restrictions.
On the other hand, content on wikiHow is licensed under a proprietary license, which prohibits reuse of wikiHow content outside wikiHow.
Powered by the latest MediaWiki
skyHow is built on the latest version of MediaWiki (currently version 1.43.1), the same software that powers Wikipedia. This means you get all the features and benefits of a robust, proven platform.
While wikiHow is built on MediaWiki, it runs on an older version of MediaWiki (1.33.0), which was released in 2019 and is no longer supported. skyHow gets the latest MediaWiki features that wikiHow doesn't.
WikiOasis, which hosts skyHow, has confirmed that it will likely update the MediaWiki software on skyHow to 1.44 soon.
No advertisements
skyHow is completely ad-free. We don't show any ads on skyHow, and we never will. We believe that ads are annoying and distracting, and we want to provide a clean, distraction-free experience for our users.
On the other hand, wikiHow shows ads on their site, which can be annoying and distracting.
No WRM. No Seymour Edits. No staff. Just volunteers.
skyHow is built by the community for the community. There are no staff involved in skyHow. Just volunteers who want to help others. All of our articles on skyHow are written by volunteers, not by staff.
Improved editing experience
skyHow has a much better editing experience than wikiHow. We have a modern, user-friendly interface that makes it easy to edit and create articles. It has much more features in the editing toolbox compared to wikiHow, such as syntax highlighting, access to symbols and special characters, a built-in text finder and replacer, a better preview, and more.
